I stayed as part of a special private event. While the event was great, the resort wasn’t the best. The room was rather dirty especially the curtains and walls, and also damp/mildew-y smell. The buffet food was also bad (it reminded me of Golden Corral food). I was grateful that the event promoter provided us higher quality meals for dinner than the resort’s offerings.
The positives of the resort were the beach and pools, which were really nice. I also didn’t encounter any pests/bugs inside during my stay, and the air conditioning worked well. Service was average — more in line with a 3-star resort than a 5-star one but still good overall. I would never stay here outside of the specific event that I attended since this is nothing like my experience at a true luxury resort, and I was underwhelmed given the price

One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in!
Check in: room not ready in time - stated on hotels.com 3pm, give you a wrist band but nope not active because your room isn't ready, so you have to stand in line again to check if your room is ready and activate then, very painful process! No water around anywhere for welcoming guests, have to go to the bar to get it yourself... which you don't know because you just arrived and big line...
Room: Bed sheets damp and stained, called 2x for someone to change them, no one comes, then had to call the manager, room not that clean, very old feeling, dust on coffee mugs, had to wash myself... for $350 a night, this a major rip off! Want to have a nap and can't because the sheets are wet!
Food: Striker bar, terrible quality food, buffet really gross... food contamination, try to get vegetables taste like fish, bad service when it comes to getting water and can't get yourself anywhere except if you ask buffet staff or bar... they apparently are supposed to stock your fridge every day but don't do so, then you have to call them which they don't come even 1 hour later when you tell them there is nothing left... service is really bad even after calling multiple times... housekeeping also knocked my $700 oura ring from the bed side table way under the bed and I had to spend 1 hour using the app to find it again! Thankfully I did!
Making restaurant bookings, painful - have to wait in line with your cards they give you, and no you're not allowed to go every night...
Beach is okay, sandy but lots of big rocks, saw one girl bleeding from her knee, better to avoid coming here but if you come then bring water shoes!

I spent the past week here and it was the perfect vacation spot for me. The gym is really great and has a squat rack, barbells, and most of everything else you’d need. It’s definitely not a typical hotel gym. Reyes, Lupita, and Pablo who work at the desk at the gym were always very nice and super helpful.
I was a little worried about the food situation, but thankfully they pretty much always had healthy food options available at the buffet (roast chicken breast or turkey, baked fish, steamed vegetables, lots of fruits). And the fruits are incredibly good.
All in all it was a great experience. I’d definitely come back.

La Trattoria has excellent service! Our waiter Luis Uitzil was very friendly and kind. Food came out very fast and the singing at the beginning of the meal was wonderful! Definitely recommend if you stay at the Barceló resort. The location is convenient just not very pretty. (it’s in the mall) Ambiance/atmosphere is great.

What a relaxing atmosphere after a day of soaking up the sun! The food is excellent and servers attentive. If you want to be catered to while at the resort, or just a quieter evening meal, this is the spot! The buffet at Caribe is excellent! Ask for Ricardo Kuyoc and Maria and they will provide you with excellent service.
