I was not impressed with my stay at Barcelo. The food was pretty much the same daily so we got tired of it quickly. In addition, most of my family got food poisoning the week we were there from the buffets. The chicken was under cooked and the fact that the same food would stay out for hours until the buffet would close wasn’t really helpful to prevent food poisoning.
Granted the drinks at the bar were delicious, and there were 4 resorts we could eat from or even reserve restaurant if we didn’t want to eat buffet. But those reservations would fill up quickly. The waiters were amazing but expect to give them at least $1 tip.
The only good beach to swim in was by the Beach Resort due to less rocks.

Premium Level is a Scam. Get ready to get treated differently (negatively) if you ask for what they have promised you while booking the stay. Staff has no sense of customer service and would snap at tiniest possible things. No wonder they offer 20 to 25% off year around.
Room:
There are no locks to the door of either shower or toilet in the room plus the door wont stay closed, keep opening up by its own. For some couples it doesn't matter but for families this could be uncomfortable.
Bracelets giving access to room door can deactivate anytime, so get ready for long walk to front desk at any given time to reactive them. Plus the staff is rude and keep you waiting in longer queue for some two seconds activation.
We noticed that premium level service desk takes way longer then regular front desk for same amount of task.
Restaurants:
Every restaurants confirms the dietary restrictions / food allergy when you check in but no one can understand the same once you start placing order. One of the member in the group is lactose intolerant, asked for vegan cheese or pizza with no cheese and they could not understand either. We understand language barrier, but this is some one health which they have no sense of seriousness. Every time, we ask for substitution in food, manager and waiter just laugh at the request by looking at each other.
Only great part of the trip was checking out, which was very smooth and not painful at all.
Lots of option in Cancun, look around before you book at same price point.

Outstanding customer service by Esther Canul. Managing a request for a group of 13 is not always easy, especially when it comes to securing reservations at popular dining spots. Esther was a standout, attentively listening to our needs and preferences to help us book a table at one of the hotel's sought-after à la carte restaurants.
Her ability to understand exactly what we were looking for and her efficiency in making it happen was truly impressive. This reservation was particularly important to us as it was not only a celebration of Mother's Day but also a birthday for one of our beloved elders. Thanks to Esther, we are looking forward to what we believe will be a memorable meal, adding a perfect touch to what has already been an incredible trip.

The sports bar, Strikers was SO fun!! Great games on the TVs, service from all the wait staff was amazing! Octavio especially!!! They have food 24/7 and it’s decent. Our favorite place to hang out when we come here!
