Weather


  • In January and February, the weather in Bulgaria is noticeably cold with temperatures not too dissimilar to those of the rest of the central Europe. Averages of around 3 degrees Celsius are expected so wrap up warm on your winter break.
  • In March and April, the weather begins to improve with temperatures starting off at around 7 and 8 degrees Celsius and then increasing to around to 10-13.
  • In May and June, Bulgaria welcomes the return of its hot summer with temperatures breaking into the low 20s. 21 is the average around this time but some hot days can reach 25.
  • In July and August, Bulgaria gets warmer again with temperatures now comfortably sitting around the mid 20s. Expect 12 hours of sunshine and the hottest days to reach highs of 27.
  • In September, Bulgaria is still noticeably sunny with average temperatures still sitting in the early 20s.
  • In October, Bulgaria begins to cool down slightly with temperatures returning to the late teens.
  • In November and December, Bulgaria returns to more cooler weather with 10 degrees common for autumn and 5 degrees the norm in the run up to Christmas.

Situated just north of Varna is the Euxinograd palace, which once served as a summer house for the Bulgarian royal family. The building is a well-known landmark and gives an interesting account of Bulgaria’s rich heritage and 19th Century architectural style.
