Absolutely beautiful hotel all-around, we loved the whole experience throughout the entire holiday! AR Roca Esmeralda in Calpe, Alicante, Costa Blanca, Spain; is a fantastic hotel that I’d 100% without a doubt recommend to family and friends! From the rooms to the restaurant and bar, it was extremely pleasing across our 5-day stay! In the restaurant first of all, I’d love to mention and thank the following staff for all going above and beyond to make our 3-course Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner dining experience even more memorable: Maria, Rosana, Yolima, and Andres. Maria, who is one of the head chefs in the restaurant, looked after my little brother and 70-year-old Nan so much, and showed genuine love to all of us. Maria made my brother some of his favourite Spanish dishes which he requested from her, which shows that she was such a friendly, sweet, caring person on the inside and outside. Thank you ever so much Maria, you’re amazing and we loved seeing you and hearing your voice! Rosana, Yolima and Andres were also very welcoming waiters in the restaurant, they genuinely enjoyed having conversations and getting to know us a little bit. Rosana and Yolima both complimented how we dressed and looked which was nice of them, and Rosana also let us have breakfast early before we left for our transfer to Alicante-Elche Migues Hernandéz Airport and our flight back to London Stansted Airport, she made us some pastries and let us help ourselves to the hot drinks machine which was very lovely of her, thanks so much again Rosana, you’re a wonderful person! Overall for the restaurant staff, I would love to dedicate this 5-star positive review mostly to Maria and Rosana, you guys were absolutely great.. incredibly hard-working people you both are!
For the bar in the hotel, the following staff really looked after us and gave us the best experience which was filled with laughter and family-friendly, efficient service:
• Bilal
• Javi
• Maria
• Souliaman
On the other hand, reception staff were all absolutely awful, very disrespectful people who could barely speak English, in which AR Roca Esmeralda is generally considered as an international hotel in Spain that should have people who speak English. Sofia and Diego in particular were two rubbish people who were very rude and unhelpful we encountered throughout our stay and a few other women staff who were working at the reception. However, Daniel was the only receptionist who showed genuine care and respect to us throughout our stay at this hotel, and helped us carry the majority of our luggage to the room we had all the way on the top floor (Floor 9). He was very good and also helped us find a good rental car for us to use, great guy who was genuine and the only person that we didn’t have any problems with at the reception. All the rest of the staff though, absolutely garbage service they provided, as they refused to help my 70-year-old Nan with accessibility as she is disabled and has a few medical conditions, so we were quite annoyed and disappointed about that. However, thank you so much again Daniel for your support at reception, you was the only receptionist that chose to go above and beyond with the services and help from the start to the end of the stay.
Apart from all that though, we were ultimately very happy with our stay, and we thank you all so much to those who did provide endless care and love throughout the stay! We all absolutely enjoyed the experience you guys gave us! Extremely grateful for everything that you loving people did for us throughout our 5-night holiday. We really appreciate all of your support and love once again! God bless you guys who gave us a the best possible experience at AR Roca Esmeralda Hotel. Thank you so much, 5-stars!! 😃❤️🥹🙏💯

Positives first - excellent location near to promenade & bus stop.
We were b & b - food itself was fine but the dining room itself was a pretty depressing place. The other public areas were good - nice bar & reception area. The bedrooms were like the dining room - old & worn. Bedroom sheet torn. Glass tables in rooms a hazard & very dated.
Staff a bit of a mixture - cleaning staff friendly & hotel very clean so they were doing a good job. Dining staff & bar staff seemed efficient but not friendly - no positive interactions. Reception initially gave us wrong room but this was quickly rectified.
The indoor pool was nice but also used for swimming lessons by the locals so best to check if it was available before changing into swimsuits.

The Reception staff are beyond unhelpful, the buffet consists near exclusively of food devoid of flavour or texture and only opened from breakfast at 08:00, and rooms are well past their sell by date. Silverfish discovered in the room!
Two examples of the Reception staff. (1) When I asked about booking a transfer to the airport, the next day the person I spoke to said that they did not know, but I should try the person on the next morning. The next morning I was advised by Reception that the transfer company do not do same day bookings. (2) Asking for a taxi to the tram station, the Reception staff informed me that the tram was not running, and that I needed to take a coach. When I got to the coach station, I discovered that they were not running, but a brief scan of the tram operator website showed that they were running, albeit with a rail replacement bus service.
The buffet was hopeless.
The room was like a time capsule to the 90s: brown tiles, brown curtains, brown en-suite fittings. The bed was well past it’s best before date and the headboard has part missing.
And this morning there was a silverfish scuttling around my room!
This is a great location for cycling. Room rates are the same as other good hotels. Why so little effort with this place?

Jota was doing activities during our stay. He was truly amazing! Very fluent in Spanish and English. Made our stay enjoyable. The kids enjoyed the bingo and quiz. Very entertaining.

I have been here for 4 nights, tonight 30th December is my last night, every meal time the food has been lukewarm, I can see why a microwave is in place, I am sure that under food regulations (which we have in place in uk) that food should be at least 65 degrees, clearly your food is not! I believe there is a manager on duty tonight who clearly has moved things up a level as I haven’t seen so many chefs replenishing food etc, staff were much more in action! Pity this wasn’t happening every service.
