Ultimately a peaceful holiday at a leisurely pace is the preferred style to a break in Lixouri. Its appeal is warm, friendly and picturesque and is listed as Kefalonia's second-biggest town. Of course, Argostoli is there to keep the pace up a little when desired but for leisurely evenings spent in tavernas, restaurants and bars, days spent wandering the sights and taking in some inspiring scenery along with plenty of tours to neighbouring villages, and the beaches on this part of the coast, then Lixouri is definitely a good base. If nightclubs and action are your thing, then Lixouri probably isn't the place for you. Consider this as a more sleepy and romantic approach to a Greek holiday.
Lixouri focuses its bars and cafes around the main square and the beaches are further afield, some a few kilometres from the town. The laid-back atmosphere is perfect for those wanting to recharge in beautiful surroundings and explore more of Kefalonia's authentic villages and neighbouring hotspots. There is ferry transport to Argostoli which offers a few museums and of course the chance to tour Kefalonia via a great selection of excursions.
