My partner and I had the pleasure of spending 11 days at this all-inclusive, adults-only resort as part of a package holiday with British Airways.
Our stay was nothing short of exceptional. The staff went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable throughout. In particular, our personal concierge, Fernanda Montoya, made every effort to make our holiday truly special.
The resort boasts excellent amenities, including several swimming pools, a variety of restaurants and bars, as well as a spa and gym. The entertainment team worked tirelessly to provide a range of daily activities and events.
As a gay couple, we had some initial concerns ahead of our first visit to Mexico, particularly about how welcome we would feel in Playa del Carmen. However, we were made to feel completely safe and at ease from the moment we arrived, which allowed us to fully relax and enjoy our holiday.
We very much look forward to returning to this wonderful resort in the near future.

We spent 10 days at Royal Hideaway Playacar and had a truly wonderful experience. The resort is peaceful and beautifully maintained, with a fantastic beachfront and a relaxed, adults-only vibe. The beds were super comfortable, making it easy to unwind after fun-filled days.
The food was great overall, though a bit inconsistent at times. That said, there were some real highlights: the grilled octopus available at several restaurants was excellent, the mole sauce at Spices was rich and flavorful, and the beersicle dessert at Spices was a fun surprise!
The real stars of our stay were the staff. Huge shoutout to Gabriela, the best concierge we’ve ever had—attentive, kind, and incredibly helpful. And we can’t thank the activities team enough: Roberto, Carlos, Raul, and Anna brought amazing energy and made every day fun with games, activities, and smiles.
We left with great memories and would definitely recommend Royal Hideaway Playacar to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation in Playa del Carmen.

Great experience staying here, the service was excellent and all the employees made us feel welcome. The rooms are spacious and separated into small villas, the grounds are beautiful with several pools. There are 5 restaurants on site with several types of cuisine to choose from and they are all pretty good. Great location right on the beach and it is well take care of. My only complaint is there could be more nightlife activities (they did have karaoke, a few shows, and bands throughout the week). Just FYI the crowd is more couples and older folks, which is totally fine but I went with some younger singles friends. Great value overall!

Let me tell you, this hotel is absolutely stunning! From the moment you step in, the entrance takes your breath away. Grand chandeliers hang throughout the property, the artwork is impeccable, and the sweeping staircases make you feel like you’ve walked into a palace. The grounds are just as beautiful, with rolling fountains, bridges, and endless picture-perfect spots. Since it’s on a hill, be prepared for a little up-and-down walking, but it only adds to the charm.
The rooms are simple yet divine – firm beds, soft pillows, and a separate shower with a jetted tub. Around the resort, there are 6 pools plus a hot tub (not on during our trip because of the heat). I loved the big beach beds and cushioned patio furniture scattered everywhere – perfect for relaxing.
The food was mostly delicious. Breakfast and lunch by the pool were wonderful, with both a small buffet and menu service, plus attentive waiters who come right to your lounge chair. You can also enjoy a sit-down lunch upstairs overlooking the beach. Dinners rotate between six restaurants: the Mediterranean wasn’t my favorite, and I’ve yet to find an Italian restaurant in Mexico where the pasta isn’t undercooked. But the Mexican restaurant was excellent, and the hibachi was fantastic – perfectly cooked shrimp and juicy salmon made it a standout.
The beach was lovely, and there’s entertainment during the day with poolside games that keep things lively. The staff made the experience even better – Carlos, especially, was outstanding, and everyone was so kind and accommodating.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience that I highly recommend. Beautiful hotel, great food, amazing staff – you’ll feel truly taken care of here!

This is not our first time at the Royal Hideaway and what keeps us coming back is the incredible staff! Our villa concierge, Sandra, is incredible and makes sure our entire stay is perfect. The pool and restaurant staff is so hard working and intentional. The restaurants are always a great experience with delicious cocktails and food selections and we can’t wait to come back!
