I arrived at TRH Mijas at 10 PM and was met by tired, unwelcoming staff who made no effort to offer a pleasant check-in. From the start, I felt dismissed and unwelcome.
The room I was given was completely unacceptable — it looked like a garage, with no natural light, a strong smell of mould, filthy and outdated furniture, and a horrible toilet. It was very clear that this was not the room initially allocated, but rather one they swapped me into upon my arrival. The reason for this switch became painfully clear: discrimination. I was treated differently, and I firmly believe it was racially motivated.
When I asked for a different room, I was told the hotel was fully booked and this is what happens if you arrive at 10PM - like I’ve been punished. I offered to pay for an upgrade, as did my travel agent, but this was flatly refused. Instead, I was told I could take my things and leave if I didn’t like it — they were “happy to refund.” That kind of response says everything about how they value their guests.
To make matters worse, Mr. Daniel at the front desk was incredibly disrespectful, addressing me with zero professionalism and a superiority complex, as though I were beneath him or simply not worth basic courtesy. He even lied to my travel agent, that I’ve told other guests not to check-in like that would be my problem at 10PM.
If this is some kind of silent protest against tourism in Spain, then congratulations — message received loud and clear. I will never return to this hotel, and I strongly urge others to stay away. The attached photos speak for themselves. This experience was not just bad hospitality — it was offensive.

Beautiful hotel set into the hillside overlooking the coast and the sea. I would describe it as "old school charm". Tastefully decorated, lovely bar area and salon. The terrace next to the bar is wonderful.
Whilst it was too cold to use the pool ( we were there in early February) there were plenty of loungers and one didn't feel cramped. The pool looked lovely.
There are lots of terraced where you can sit and read and have a wonderful, view and listen to the many birds.
The location is excellent,a short walk to the many bars restaurants and shops. Staff were friendly, helpful and courteous.
The room, whilst a little tired, was perfectly comfortable and very clean.
We only ate there once ( club sandwich) which was excellent value.
I would certainly come back here again.

Lovely quiet but beautiful location 👌 the hotel is spotless and staff are very friendly. Breakfast has alot of choice. The rooms are lovely and clean. View from my room is amazing. Pool view. Swimming area clean but loungers are so uncomfortable. . The towel you're allowed take to the pool area are thin and could do with getting new ones. And tea/coffee/sugar don't seem to get replaced daily.so I've purchased milk and coffee from the local supermarket. Lots of local restaurants and lovely local town. Flowers everywhere, really beautiful. Local bus rides to various other places and it's pretty cheap. You won't be disappointed if you holiday here. Something that might be worth considering is having a large wall clock by the bar area as I don't wear my watch in the day. Something definitely worth a trip to are the cable cars. A cheap bus journey away. The views are breathtaking and there are lovely walks at the top. Wear trainers as ground uneven . You won't regret it.

Fabulous Hotel in a very picturesque setting.
Staff so helpful, polite and proffessional.
Stayed for 7 night, asked to change room after 1st night, due to it being directly below the bar terrace, no problem whatsoever, staff arranged a move for me that morning.

Very nice hotel. Classically Spanish. Only had bed & breakfast which was 1st class. Reception very helpful. Local bus stop outside of hotel, very handy. Fantastic views from terraces onto Fuenguralo. Poolside staff rather slow 🐌
