Intrurotel Cala Azul is located in Cala D'Or, which is an amazing area for beaches, and the closest sandy beaches nearby are only a few minutes walk - the stunning Cala Esmeralda, Cala Ferrera and Cala Gran, which are all public beaches and have a great Mallorcan vibe and crystal clear turquoise waters. (If you book directly with the hotel you get beach towels for free. And we also got a cute tote bag we used for the beach - such a sweet and useful souvenir! 😊)
However, Cala D'Or is not particularly famous for fine dining, most of the cafes are serving standard dishes along the lines of pizza and pasta, albeit some of them with a lovely sea view (but, in my opinion, are quite expensive for what it is). We had to drive around quite a lot for more sophisticated dinner options, generally around 1h each way, which we did anticipate when we were planning where to stay. Therefore, when we did stay in the area, we preferred to cook instead - the kitchenette in our apartment was great and the big supermarket nearby offered familiar food.
The hotel is a part of a larger Inturotel group of hotels - you are allowed to use some amenities in the common areas in other hotels (e.g. sun loungers), but not all, not even for a fee.
The sun loungers at the hotel Azul itself are around its swimming pool and in the pine area, next to the rocks and the concrete steps access to the water. It's ok, but not as lovely as on a sandy beach.
We stayed in the Select Apartment Pool View on the ground floor, it had a tiiiiny bit of a sea view. The room was slightly on a pricey side for a 3* hotel, but proooobably justified. The room was lovely, newly refurbished and cleverly designed (I'm not attaching the pictures, because it was identical to the photos on the website). We were also initially a bit concerned it might be somewhat loud, but it wasn't a problem at all - the sound isolation is quite good and the residents don't generally have an early morning or a late night 😁
The hotel is modern, very well maintained and clean - a pleasure to walk around. It's also very organically placed in Cala D'Or - you don't feel isolated or ring fenced and walking from beach to beach or to a corner shop feels very comfortable.
We also liked the gym - it's well stocked and you can have a similar workout you would normally have at your local gym.
The reception is open 24/7.
Our stay was in mid September. The weather was still hot and the water in the sea very warm, so overall a very enjoyable experience. We did, however, get one rainy day.
One tiny thing: it would be great if the hotel provided sleepers - the floor in our apartment was tiled and it would be very nice to have sleepers 🙂

We had a 6 night stay in apartments block A, the apartment was clean and tidy although a bit dated, the kitchen area was quite small which was fine for the two of us but maybe a squeeze for a bigger party or family. Aircon could have been better as well, large balcony area which had the sun on it most of the day, the pool area had plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas and the pools quite child friendly, maybe busier and a bit noisy in mid summer with school holidays, a snack bar further down the terrace serving food and drink at reasonable cost. A path lead down to a rocky inlet with a small jetty with ladders leading down into the clear blue sea. Air conditioned gym with plenty of weights, bikes, crosstrainers and treadmills. The little tourist train and local buses all stopped 100 yards away all of which were quite frequent. Overall we found it was excellent value for the price we paid, we usually go in adult only hotels and this was a very good deal.
Checking in was a bit long winded with a couple of families in front of us with very tired young children gradually losing patience with the amount of messing around with the Jet2 app and the receptionist insisting on the booking invoice being emailed to him although customers were already on the hotels system, I'd hate to see The chaos if a full coach turned up.

Pool is a too small and no inflatables allowed not enough beds and all gone around 7am. The view from the room was really nice and kids loved jumping from the coves into the sea. Entertainment none existent. Holiday was good but wouldn't return to the hotel again.

The rooms are quite dated but very clean, the location is a little far from the main area although their is a strip.
which if you’ve got young children would be ideal . The food is really nice but not a massive selection to choose from .
If you like getting up early to get a sun bed this place is for you . Personally I try to avoid this on holiday . Overall we’ve had a nice stay but we wouldn’t come back .

Absolute gem and very reasonably priced. I didn’t realise we had access to the entire complex and not just this hotel which was amazing, there were 3 pools, a gym, and an almost private beach. The rooms are not modern but have everything you need
