I'm not sure where the other people who have reviewed this property have stayed, but I don't believe it was at the Riu San Francisco.
The location is awful, it's right on top of one of the busiest streets in the area, full of rowdy bars, day and night. Our room overlooked the street and we never got any peace. We asked to switch rooms and the hotel told us there would be a 59 euro charge for this.
Rooms are basic with only hand wash and shower gel available in the bathroom. Couldn't make proper use of the balcony due to the outside noise.
Asked reception for a 2nd pillow after the first night, this never arrived.
The staff are lovely but the location of the hotel and lack of care for the noise really let's it down.

I love the Rio, but this hotel had three minuses. The air conditioning only worked in the afternoon, so we woke up sweaty in the morning. The bed was tragic, very uncomfortable, uneven, cramped. And also a lot of noise from the street. Anyway, the food and staff was good again.

Hi me and my husband have just returned from riu san Francisco we booked this hotel as a wedding anniversary celebration I just wanted to say thank you to receptionist called piedade for making our stay so memorable she went beyond she surprised us with a little decoration in the room and a fruit platter. All the staff are very nice and the hotel is very clean. Will definitely go back and recommend this hotel for family and friends. Thank you Piedade. Thank you riu Francisco.

Hotel is situated directly on the beach, getting to the hotel from the airport was really simple, just take the A2 bus and it goes practically right outside the entrance.
My room was comfortable and clean, I noticed the aircon was disabled but I did go in January, so maybe it would be turned on during summer months, there was a ceiling fan however, and the balcony door could be opened for fresh air.
The staff were always wonderful which made the stay very pleasant. The general area is catered towards German guests, so if like me you don’t speak the language you may feel a little left out, or in some cases people assumed you knew German and spoke to you in the language, honest mistake though and quickly rectified when they realised, all staff I spoke to at the hotel were fluent in English, same can be said about the local shops.
I enjoyed my stay and will be coming back in future.

Very pleased with the hotel. Nice welcoming reception. Nice sized, clean rooms, only disappointment was the size of the bathroom, which was very small but we managed.
Hotel has a really good breakfast included in the price, which exceeded my expectations (as you never know with a free American hotel breakfast!).
The selection was great, everything you need. Hot selection of bacon, eggs, sausage, pancakes, etc. Also fresh fruits, pastries, fresh juice, teas, etc etc. My family and I didn’t need lunch as it filled us up so much. It’s really busy between 9-10am though so be prepared or go earlier.
Pool was on the smaller size but absolutely fine for the kids to have a dip.
Fisherman’s Wharf is on your doorstep, so anything you want to see there is not too far by foot. Lots of restaurants to choose from there as well so no need to go anywhere else if you don’t want to venture too far.
Opposite hotel is a Safeway if you need any snacks or toiletries.
If you need some clothes washing there is a laundrette about 4 blocks away - ‘Wash This’ (the hotel laundry service is VERY expensive) Russ who works at Wash This was super helpful!
Literally two blocks away is the start of a tram line, next to Starbucks, it goes straight to Union Square, so super convenient to explore the other part of San Francisco.
We parked a car overnight at the hotel car park and it cost $57!! (for 12-24hrs). There is parking on the street and other car parks about but we didn’t really know how to use the on street parking (all a bit confusing for us Brits :-) or where the other car parks were (until it was too late) so I’d suggest doing a bit of research if you want to get a cheaper rate, wish we had.
So all in all I’d 100% recommend the hotel for a very nice, above average, very fair priced hotel ($700 for 3 nights for 4 people in 1 Room - Queen) in a good tourist area of San Fran. Thank you Hotel Riu!
