Grand Hotel Excelsior delivers exactly the kind of stay where small imperfections fade behind a genuinely comfortable experience. Yes, the hotel shows its age in a few corners, but it’s the kind of “older grand hotel” charm rather than neglect. Everything was consistently clean, well maintained, and welcoming, which set a positive tone from the start.
The room was a standout. It was impressively spacious and the bed was genuinely comfortable, making it easy to unwind after long days out. That sense of space and comfort really elevated the stay.
The spa area added another layer of relaxation. The gym, much like the rest of the hotel, is on the older side. Some equipment wasn’t functional, but the overall size of the space made up for it. There was enough room and variety to still get a decent workout in, so it didn’t feel like a drawback worth deducting a star for.
Overall, Grand Hotel Excelsior Malta offers a warm, comfortable, and satisfying stay—especially if you value spacious rooms, cleanliness, and a touch of classic hotel character.

We stayed one week at the hotel Excelsior at the end of November, and I have no words to express my gratitude to everyone who made our stay such a wonderful experience! From the reception team, the young, tall doorman who always paid special attention to our 3-year old boy, the cleaning staff, to the restaurant crew — everyone was welcoming, helpful, and genuinely polite.
Our suite was so spacious and comfortable that we sometimes preferred staying in and relaxing over going out. And the food at the hotel restaurant was so good that, even though we usually enjoy eating out, we often chose to dine in.
Overall, we warmly recommend this hotel.

The buffet at Admiral's Landing in Excelsior Hotel is outstanding! A wide variety of fresh, delicious dishes, beautifully presented and constantly replenished. The live cooking stations are a great touch, and the desserts are irresistible. Staff are friendly and attentive, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. I can easily say it's one of the best buffets ever. Highly recommended for anyone looking for quality, variety, and great service!

Our stay at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Malta was extremely disappointing and unprofessional from start to finish.
Before arriving, we communicated with the hotel by email and received written confirmations. However, once we arrived, the hotel changed what had been clearly stated in their emails. When we tried to follow up, we were told that the employee handling our case was on days off, and no one else took responsibility or replied. This level of communication is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone a so-called 5-star property.
The most serious issue is that the hotel charged us for an extra night after we had already checked out. We immediately informed them, yet instead of correcting the mistake, they launched an “investigation” that took one full month, only to falsely claim that we stayed the last night — which is completely untrue. This is extremely concerning and feels like taking money from guests unfairly.
Regarding the hotel itself:
- The rooms are old, poorly maintained, and not clean
- The breakfast is very poor, with limited choices and low quality
- The staff is unprofessional, unhelpful, and disorganized
Overall, this was one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. This hotel does not deserve a 5-star rating in any way — neither in service, quality, nor professionalism.
We strongly do not recommend this hotel and deeply regret choosing it.

We stayed here for four nights during our trip to Malta, and it’s safe to say that while this hotel may have been five stars last century, it’s surely not worthy of that ranking now. Firstly, we arrived and we had booked two rooms online, but the hotel couldn’t find our reservations (or had some error where our reservations were under a different name) for over half an hour. It wasn’t a great start, but passable. We arrived late and so we had a quick dinner at the hotel, and it took forever even though we were one of the only tables. We saw the food and drinks waiting near the kitchen, but no one gave them to us (and the waiter disappeared for periods of time). Then, the rooms were just average. They had the basics, but they looked a bit bland and dated, and the WiFi was far from great. Next up, breakfast. The selection seemed large, but they clearly prioritized quantity over quality. Besides the made-to-order pancakes and eggs, everything else wasn’t very good. Additionally, the cleaning situation at breakfast was interesting to say the least. Numerous times we saw how the attendants would just brush off the crumbs and leave stains on the white tablecloths. I didn’t expect this level of laziness from a five-star hotel, and it made me wonder how they cleaned our rooms… Everything else was also just not up to my standards. The elevators were very slow and often overcrowded, and entering the stairs seemed wrong as they were hidden in the staff area. The interior looked very old and the checkout had a 30-minute line. Overall, it felt stuck in the 90s and definitely not up to par with newer five-star hotels.
